Baby Shower Bingo Words: 150+ Ideas and How Many You Need
Here's something most word lists won't tell you: the words you pick matter less than how many you pick.
If you put 16 words on 30 cards, every card has the same 16 words in a different order. The moment the last of those gifts is opened, all 30 guests have a full card at the same time. Even for a single line, a short list means a pile of guests shouting "bingo!" together, and you run out of prizes in the first round.
So this guide starts with the math, then gives you 150+ words to choose from: classic registry gifts, words for each theme, words for co-ed and office showers, and personal touches only your guests will get.
How many bingo words do you need?
It depends on two things: the card size and how many cards you print. The more cards, the more words you need so each card is genuinely different.
These are the minimums BabyBingo uses to keep ties small. They come from a simple rule: no two cards can share the same set of words, and the list has to be big enough that winners are spread out over the game instead of bunched on one call.
| Guests (cards) | 3×3 card (9 squares) | 4×4 card (16 squares) | 5×5 card (25 squares) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 14 words | 21 words | 30 words |
| 30 | 17 words | 24 words | 33 words |
| 50 | 22 words | 29 words | 38 words |
| 75 | 28 words | 35 words | 44 words |
| 100 | 34 words | 41 words | 50 words |
Those are minimums. Going 10 to 20 words above them makes the game even more spread out, and it costs you nothing.
Which card size to choose? 4×4 is the sweet spot for most showers: big enough to last through gift opening, small enough to read from across the room. Use 3×3 for kids or a short office shower, and 5×5 if you have lots of gifts and want a longer game.

How to pull words straight from the registry (10 minutes)
For gift bingo, the best words are the ones guests will actually see unwrapped. If the parents have a registry on Babylist, Amazon or Target:
- Open the registry and sort by "purchased" if you can see it. Those gifts are coming to the shower.
- Write down the category, not the brand or model. "Car seat", not the full product name. Guests need to recognize it in two seconds.
- Add the small stuff people grab off the list at the last minute: wipes, burp cloths, socks, pacifiers. They come up a lot, which keeps the game moving.
- Fill the rest with words from the lists below until you reach the number in the table.
If you don't have the registry, the classic gift list right below covers what shows up at almost every US shower.

Words for your theme

Words for co-ed and office showers
When dads, partners or coworkers are playing, swap a few cutesy words for ones they'll laugh at:
- Dad Joke
- Grill
- Burp Cloth on the Shoulder
- First Diaper Change
- Night Shift
- Coffee
- Baby Carrier
- Car Seat Install
- Stroller Test Drive
- Nap
- Sports Onesie
- Diaper Bag (the dad version)
For the office, keep it neutral and fun: Group Card, Sheet Cake, Out of Office, Parental Leave, Gift Card, Conference Room.
Party moments (for draw bingo)
If the shower has no gift opening, play draw bingo instead: put the words on slips, draw them from a bowl, and guests mark as you call. These work well:
- Belly Rub
- Happy Tears
- Group Photo
- Cake
- Balloons
- Diaper Cake
- Gender Guess
- Due Date Guess
- Grandma's Speech
- Baby Kicks
- Toast
- Thank-You Speech
Personal touches
This is where cards stop being generic. Add five or six words only your people will understand:
- The baby's name (or the nickname everyone already uses)
- The parents' names
- What the grandparents want to be called ("Gigi", "Pop-Pop", "Nana")
- The family dog's or cat's name
- The weirdest pregnancy craving
- The hospital or birth city
- The due date month
- A family inside joke
Tips for a better list
Mix easy and hard words. Diapers and wipes get marked fast. Rarer gifts keep the game going past the first round.
Keep words short. One to three words per square. "Diaper Cream" fits; "A big pack of newborn diapers" doesn't, especially on a 5×5 card.
No near-duplicates. "Bottle" and "Baby Bottle" on the same list confuse guests and cause arguments.
Keep a caller sheet. On a gift bingo card, a guest marks "Swaddle" when they see one. If two guests disagree, the host needs a list of what was actually opened. BabyBingo includes a caller sheet with every order for this.

Frequently asked questions
What words should go on a baby shower bingo card?
For gift bingo, use registry gifts guests will see unwrapped: diapers, wipes, onesie, bottle, swaddle and so on. For draw bingo, use party moments and personal words, like the baby's name and family nicknames.
How many words do I need for 30 guests?
For 30 cards on a 4×4 grid you need at least 24 words, and 30 to 40 is better. On a 5×5 grid, aim for at least 33. With fewer words, many cards fill up at the same time.
Why does everyone get bingo at the same time?
Because the word list is too short for the number of cards. When cards share almost all their words, they complete on the same call. A longer list spreads the winners out.
Can I use the same word twice on a card?
No. Each square should be a different word, otherwise one gift marks two squares and the card fills up too fast.
Should I use brand names on bingo cards?
Use the type of item instead. "Sound machine" works for anyone; a brand name only works for guests who know the product.
